Why we are migrating, and why now.
In April 2024, Nyte Comics is migrating away from our longtime home on Gumroad.
This change has been in the works for a very long time, starting in 2021 with the launch of our own website built to showcase the largest publication of vore comics on the internet. In 2023, we added a new custom feature to enhance our Memberships by allowing members more choice and control over the comics they can get for free as a part of their membership.
All of these changes and additions were built to improve YOUR experience buying comics from us, and to help ensure that we remain the best place on the internet to get high quality vore comics.
This latest change isn’t immediately better for you, but it will improve NyteComics over the long run. For a long time, we’ve known that it was somewhere between possible and likely that we’d be forced to leave Gumroad. This isn’t because of Gumroad themselves, but because they rely on major payment processors like Stripe and PayPal, and those companies have a history of banning adult content.
Until recently, Gumroad has been a safe haven for adult artists like us. Last year, they were forced to remove our access to Paypal payments for our customers due to Paypal enforcing their anti-NSFW content policy. And while it hasn’t happened to us yet, in late March 2024, Gumroad started taking down entire stores of NSFW content due to pressure from their primary payment processor Stripe.
Based on what we know, combined with the recent loss of our 14+ year DeviantArt page for similar reasons, we started making plans to complete the “final” leg of our migration and proactively remove our dependency on Gumroad before they are forced to terminate our account.
This includes a complete rebuild of the functionality we rely on Gumroad for, as well as using a special payment processor that allows NSFW creators like us so we never have to worry about being kicked off a platform again just because of the art we create.
What this migration means for you.
Once everything is completed, you’ll be able to log into the new Nyte Comics admin to see and download all of your past purchases, manage your Nyte Membership, etc. In time, you’ll be able to do everything you could previously and more!
That said, we are working to beat an unknown deadline, so we are approaching this migration in phases with the following order:
- Launching a new Nyte Comics Checkout for all new purchases
- Migrating existing customers
- Migrating memberships
- Migrating past purchases
1. Launching the New Nyte Checkout
Instead of going to Gumroad when you click “Buy this comic” you will be redirected to a site securely hosted on our own domain, nytecomics.com. The checkout process itself will be very similar to what you’re used to!
We’re currently testing this now and as soon as we’re confident, we will launch the first version and continue to improve it over time.
2. Migrating All Existing Customer Accounts
If you’ve ever purchased a comic from us, we will automatically create an account in our new system. This will happen automatically, and the only action you will need to take is setting a password so you can securely access that account.
We will notify you by email with instructions on how to set your new nytecomics.com account password soon, and any new purchases made using the same email address will automatically be linked to this account.
3. Migrating memberships
First: If you have a NyteComics membership, THANK YOU. Your recurring support is a huge part of how we are able to keep this operation going. We’re working hard to ensure that this migration goes smoothly for you, too.
Unfortunately, migrating memberships may be one of the hardest parts of this transition as it will require that every member signs up again so we can store your payment info securely in the new system.
Rest assured that we will make this as easy as possible. We will preserve ALL unused Nyte Tokens through this process for use once the migration is completed. You will only lose your Nyte Tokens if you do not migrate by a deadline that we specify. You may also be eligible for an incentive to complete the migration.
More on this step as soon as we have details we can share! But we really, really hope that you’ll stick with us through the transition so we can continue adding value to memberships on the other side.
4. Migrating past purchases
Once all customers and members have been migrated, we will import the history of your purchases on Gumroad into the new platform. Once completed, you will be able to log in and easily access the entire library of comics you’ve purchased from Nyte Comics over the years all in one place!
At this time we aren’t sharing a detailed timeline for these steps but we will provide regular updates through our newsletter.
